Q: What if my child does not have any prior dance experience?
A: Prima is an excellent choice for your child. We have a staff that is highly trained in education as well as dance. This allows the instructors to better teach to individuals as well the whole group. With the wide array of classes and times available at Prima, the director and staff are able to customize your child’s dance education.
Q: What if my child decides to dance late in life?
A: We encourage families that “It is never too late to start”. It takes a lot of determination, most likely starting under their age group, and usually requires some private or semi-private classes, but is well worth it. Dance is such a rewarding art form and way to stay physically fit, and is worth the effort no matter when you start in life.
Q: Do I have to buy the expensive dance shoes and dancewear?
A: No, however buying professionally made dance shoes and quality dancewear you almost always receive a more lasting product. We do not require a certain brand of shoes or clothing, but we cannot allow the puffy bedroom slipper style ballet shoe available at stores such as Target and Wal-Mart.
Motions (605-721-1620), located downtown on 6th street carries professional brands of shoes, tights and all types of dancewear.
Q: Is there anything I should be aware of in advance about required attire for recital?
A: We do require the ballet classes to wear “ballet pink” tights available at Motions or online. Under the high powered lights on stage color variables show really well. We want to ensure that the dancers look as classy and uniform as possible, and this includes details such as the tights on their legs.
Almost all of the tap, jazz and hip hop classes are required to have a spaghetti-strap black leotard and black jazz pants. It is required for these classes to have a leotard as their bottom layer anyway, so it is best to purchase a black leotard if you are planning on buying just one.
Q: When is recital?
A: Our end of year performance which is located at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Theatre is at the end of the 2nd week in May. The day of the performance typically falls between the 12th and the 17th of the month. This year’s recital is weekend of May 11th. Mark your calendars now!
Q: Do you offer any discounts?
A: We offer a discounted family registration fee and discounts on tuition for families with more than one person taking classes. So for example, If you had 3 students enrolled in our program, the student taking the most classes would be charged the full tuition amount and the other 2 would get the family discount rate of around 10% off their classes.
